SEATTLE — Police continue to investigate a crash that killed two people after a suspected carjacking that led officers on a high-speed chase through West Seattle early Thursday.
A 16-year-old driver of the stolen vehicle, a Honda Accord, and the 21-year-old driver of the other, a Acura Integra, both died at the scene, along with a dog that was with the older man, police said.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the 21-year-old as Devin Francis.
The office has yet to notify the teen’s family about his death and will release his identity after doing so.
Late Thursday afternoon, Seattle police released a 3-minute clip of dispatch audio and dashboard-camera video recorded minutes before the fatal crash.
About 11 p.m. Wednesday, three men allegedly stole the Honda at gunpoint near 15th Avenue South and South State Street, police said.
Three hours later, a Seattle police officer tried to pull over the vehicle about 7 miles away at 21st Avenue Southwest and Southwest Webster Street, police said.
The driver then took off and was speeding until reaching Highland Park Drive Southwest, where the car crossed the centerline and struck the westbound Acura, police said.
Police say they found a handgun in the stolen vehicle. It is unclear how the 16-year-old is connected to the carjacking.
Highland Park Way Southwest was closed at West Marginal Way after the collision until about 8:45 a.m. Thursday, according to the Seattle Department of Transportation.
The incident remains under investigation.
