MONROE COUNTY, Ind. — An Indiana sheriff’s office is mourning the loss of a reserve deputy who died Monday afternoon while responding to a call, according to FOX 59.
“When you’re a reserve, it doesn’t matter the job you do, the risks don’t change,” Sheriff Brad Swain told FOX 59.
Deputy James Driver was in his cruiser when he was struck by another vehicle, according to WAVE. A pickup truck, which was pulling a trailer, lost control while trying to stop and hit the deputy. Driver was taken to a hospital where he later died.
According to FOX 59, Driver was originally from the United Kingdom. He dreamed of becoming an American citizen and continuing his career in law enforcement. Driver is survived by his wife and three children.
