CARROLLTON, Texas — A Texas police department is mourning the loss of one of their own after a late-night crash claimed the life of Carrollton Police Officer Steve Nothem.
According to WFAA News, Nothem was sitting in his patrol car on the scene of a DUI investigation when his vehicle was struck by a passing driver. The officer was transported to a local hospital but died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver who collided with Nothem’s vehicle, 82-year-old Phillip Parker, also died.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, but initial findings show no indication of alcohol as a factor in the crash, according to police.
Nothem leaves behind his wife, a 13-year-old son, twin 6-year-old sons and a 1-year-old daughter. He joined CPD in March 2020, after serving in the Marine Corps.
