SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is mourning Lt. Chad Brackman, who was killed while working an off-duty job last week.

According to ABC 15, Brackman was directing traffic on Wednesday when he was struck. Brackman was rushed to a hospital, where he died. The driver who hit him was also taken to the hospital but was released later that day.

Sheriff Paul Penzone described Brackman as a good man.

“I can tell you because I did know Chad,” Penzone said at a news conference. “He has a beautiful family, and they are all suffering now, as is our organization and law enforcement community.”

Brackman was a 22-year veteran of the agency, according to the report. He leaves behind a wife and four kids. The investigation is ongoing.
