ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The wife of a man shot by Albuquerque police during a standoff says he suffered from depression and “just went crazy.”
Gail Martin told KOAT-TV Monday that for some reason her husband, 50-year-old Armand Martin, demanded that she and their two children get out of the house. She says he then pulled a gun outside the bedroom door on Saturday and started clicking the trigger.
She called 911, which brought out the Albuquerque SWAT team.
Police say an Albuquerque officer shot Armand Martin after he came out of his home firing two handguns. He died at the scene.
Albuquerque police are under tough scrutiny following a harsh report from the U.S. Justice Department over use of force.
On Monday, protests caused city councilor to shut down its meeting.
