ANNAPOLIS, Md. — An officer is in critical condition after being shot and a manhunt is underway for the gunman.
According to the Baltimore Sun, the unnamed officer was shot once in the upper body Friday during a confrontation with a man outside of a convenience store.
The on-duty officer had reportedly gone inside to make a purchase when someone notified the officer of a suspicious man outside the store.
The suspect ran as the officer moved to confront him. The suspect then opened fire as the officer pursued him.
Police arrived at the scene after the officer ceased radio communication.
The officer was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and is undergoing multiple surgeries, according to the report.
The suspect is described as a black male between the ages of 20 and 30, around 5'4" to 5'8", and wearing a black hoodie. He is considered armed and dangerous.
