COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus police officer was shot early Sunday during a standoff at a duplex in Clintonville.
Officers were called to the home in the first block of W. California Avenue just west of N. High Street around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. An individual became barricaded inside the residence, and SWAT officers arrived at the scene.
The male police officer was shot around 2:30 a.m., a dispatcher said.
The officer was transported to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he was undergoing surgery early Sunday. His condition was not available.
The person inside the residence was setting fires during the standoff, the dispatcher said. Firefighters were hindered fighting the fires because of the standoff.
The standoff continued past 7 a.m.
Shortly before 7:30 a.m., a man was pulled from the residence with burns on his legs, according to emergency radio communications. The man was transported to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Video submitted to The Dispatch by Clara Blessing, who lives in the neighborhood, shows police escorting a man into a Columbus fire ambulance.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire after the man was removed from the building.
N. High Street remains blocked between Weber Road and Lakeview Avenue.
