BOSTON — Officials have released surveillance video capturing the sudden attack on a Boston officer as he approached a vehicle.
According to the Boston Herald, 34-year-old Officer John Moynihan was shot just below the right eye by 41-year-old old Angelo West as he approached the suspect’s vehicle on March 27. Officers were investigating a report of shots fired when they stopped West.
The suspect was killed in an ensuing shootout with other officers on the scene.
West had reportedly served time for firing at police in a 2001 incident.
Officer Moynihan is currently recovering from his injuries and is expect to leave a rehabilitation center soon, WCVB reported. Moynihan was honored in 2014 for his role in the Watertown shootout with the Boston Marathon bombers, and is credited with saving an officer who nearly bled to death, according to the Associated Press.
