LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Kentucky police department released several body cam videos of officers fatally shooting a robbery suspect, including one from an officer who shot through a windshield.
On Tuesday, Louisville Metro Police responded to a call about an armed suspect fleeing from a robbery scene on foot, the Courier Journal reports. After Officer Joshua Weyer spotted someone who matched the description, police tried to engage with the man, 21-year-old Demonjhea Jordan, before he fled while holding what police said was a handgun.
Officers Kody Despain and Benjamin Dean and Det. Joseph Fox located Jordan down the street and fired at him, striking him multiple times. Jordan was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Lt. Aaron Crowell said police believe Jordan also fired his weapon during the encounter. A gun is visible between Jordan’s legs when he’s lying on the ground wounded.
None of the LEOs involved were shot during the incident, Crowell said.
“This is a dangerous job. We know that coming into the job,” Chief Steve Conrad said. “We hope and pray we never have to use deadly force, but this is a situation where officers were confronted with deadly force and they responded in a manner — at least based on the preliminary investigation — consistent with police, practices and training.”
The LEOs involved have been placed on administrative leave, per policy, as the department’s public integrity unit investigates the shooting.
