MARANA, Ariz. — Dash cam video has been released of an officer’s quick actions to save his own life.
According to Tucson News Now, Officer Cesar Nelson responded to a domestic disturbance February 16 when the attempted ambush occurred. As police searched for the suspect, Cesar sat inside his patrol car while watching the suspect’s empty vehicle in front of him.
It was then that the suspect, 56-year-old Daniel Lawrence Caldwell, began to approach the officer from behind with a loaded gun in hand.
Cesar reportedly saw Caldwell in his rearview mirror and immediately exited his squad while drawing his weapon.
Caldwell said, “Are you looking for me?” as he pointed his .357 at the officer.
Cesar fired five rounds at Caldwell, striking him three times. The suspect later died at a hospital.
