SAN JOSE, Calif. — Police in the South Bay are looking for a car with some bullet holes in it after its driver tried to run down two California Highway Patrol officers.

A CHP spokesman says the incident began around 2:30 a.m. Sunday when two CHP officers tried to pull over a car on Highway 87 with its headlights out.

Instead of stopping, the driver pulled off the freeway and led the CHP on a chase through city streets near downtown San Jose.

The pursuit appeared to be over when the car ended up on a dead-end street.

As the two CHP officers approached the car on foot, the driver turned the car around and sped toward the officers.

Both officers opened fire, hitting the car repeatedly as it sped away.

San Jose police are investigating the incident as an assault on an officer with a deadly weapon.
