Prone stabilization: Controlling the legs

Ever wonder how to stabilize those extremely dangerous legs that inmates on the ground use to attempt to break your face while continuing to resist your attempts to handcuff them? Stabilizing a violently resisting subject on the ground often ends up in a prone (face down) position, especially during an emergency handcuffing situation where handcuffs need to be applied with the subject’s hands behind his back. Getting the inmate’s feet controlled is extremely crucial in order to protect yourself while establishing control.

Our special thanks to Bill Devane from RIPP Restraints for the development of the leg fold technique demonstrated in this video tactical tip.
