WATERBURY, Conn. — An ex-con was busted in Connecticut yesterday for allegedly shooting an off-duty cop in a parking dispute outside a Bronx diner.
Samuel Ventura, 25, was nabbed in Waterbury after police received a tip that he was staying at a home there. NYPD detectives were on the scene during the arrest.
Ventura is accused of shooting Bronx Narcotics Detective Richard Olmo, 43, a 15-year NYPD veteran, during a fight outside the Pelham Bay Diner on East Gun Hill Road near Ely Avenue in Pelham Gardens shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday.
Olmo, who was shot in the buttocks, was released from Jacobi Hospital yesterday. He declined to comment.
Olmo was leaving the diner with relatives and friends when a car carrying Ventura bumped the vehicle an Olmo friend was driving.
An argument ensued, and Ventura allegedly pulled a gun and fired two shots, one of which hit Olmo, cops said. Ventura and his friends then fled.
Cops recovered two .25-caliber shell casings at the scene.
Ventura was being held last night and awaiting an extradition hearing. Sources said he had been out on bail on a robbery charge and has a record that includes arrests for drug possession and assault.
