LOGANSPORT, Ind. — A mayor who was ticketed for illegally parking his Corvette fought back by creating his own parking spot in an area reserved for squad cars.
An officer first noticed Mayor Ted Franklin’s car protruding into a no-parking zone outside a city building Friday and called the mayor’s office to have the car moved, according to the Pharos Tribune. The vehicle remained more than three hours later, so Patrolman A.J. Rozzi issued a ticket.
On Monday, Franklin paid the $20 fine and ordered the city to paint a parking spot in the police lot with a chain and post separating it from the police cruisers. At 400 square feet, it effectively took up two spots.
After the move caused an uproar locally and online, Franklin admitted he overreacted.
“I’m not above the law, and I’ve acknowledged that,” Franklin said. “I paid the parking ticket.”
