SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — A Schaumburg police officer and a Lake Zurich woman were hospitalized Wednesday after their cars collided in Hoffman Estates, authorities said.

“From what I understand, the injuries were extremely minor,” said Hoffman Estates Fire Battalion Chief Rich Englund.

The collision occurred at Roselle Road and Illinois Boulevard.

No tickets were issued, but the accident was under investigation, Hoffman Estates Police Sgt. Jim Campbell said.

The police officer, 39, was knocked unconscious. He was not responding to an emergency and apparently was on routine patrol, an official said.

Schaumburg police commonly travel through Hoffman Estates near the border of the two communities, Campbell said.
