BOSTON — Two officers wrestled a loaded Glock from a suspect in Dorchester Thursday during a traffic stop.
Officers Skye Robinson and Amy Erlandson pulled over Ronjae Williams for speeding down a side street, and he refused to get out of the car, the Boston Herald reports.
Once they pulled him out of the vehicle and proceeded to pat him down, he began to tense up and pull his arms towards his waist, making the officers suspect he was armed and reaching for his weapon.
The officers wrestled the suspect to the ground, where Williams reached for his .40 caliber pistol at least half a dozen times during the struggle, according to police reports.
Both officers told the Herald they didn’t grasp the danger of the situation until he was hauled away.
“You usually don’t process the whole thing until it’s over and the weapon’s secured,” Robinson said.
“You’re more concerned with making the situation safe,” Erlandson told the newspaper.
Williams was charged with carrying an unlicensed gun and resisting arrest, and as an armed career criminal due to prior convictions of cocaine trafficking and assault and battery on a police officer, according to the article.
