DOJ releases report on state of policing in US

The report identifies key issues, community policing approaches, and the impact of events and policies on LEOs

WASHINGTON — The Department of Justice released a report Monday of the state of policing in the United States.

The inaugural report provides an overview of law enforcement and changes in policing and practices in America.

“The year outlined in this report was one of incredible challenges and advancement for police and the communities they serve,” COPS Office Director Ronald Davis said in a press release. “It is my hope that the information provided in this report will help law enforcement agencies across the country advance 21st century policing.”

The report tracked developments in law enforcement from January 2015 to December 2015 and describes events that occurred and how they affected law enforcement, community policing approaches, and changes in police policies. The report was the result of a recommendation by President Obama’s policing task force, which asked the DOJ to provide an annual report on the state of LE.
