ISANTI, CO., Minn. — Recently released dash cam footage shows a Minnesota sheriff’s deputy colliding with a deer while driving 114 mph.

The West Central Tribune reported that the Isanti County sheriff’s deputy, who was responding to a call about a man with a gun inside a restaurant, was driving with his lights and sirens on when he hit the deer.

The officer was uninjured, but his squad car was left completely wrecked. The car’s bumper guard on the front was bent, the windshield smashed, the hood almost torn off and the engine was left smoking.

The Isanti County Sheriff’s Office shared the story on Facebook, where Sheriff Chris Caulk commended the officer for hitting the animal head-on instead of swerving to avoid it.

“If the deputy swerved, he would have rolled and been injured or worse,” Caulk said in the post. “Staying in a straight line kept the injuries to a minimum when the airbags deployed.”
