BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A Brooklyn man has been charged with sneaking into an NYPD stationhouse, looting a locker and changing into a cop’s uniform — claiming he’d been promoted and was heading to work at One Police Plaza.
Baruch Ezagui, 28, was caught carrying crack inside the 71st Precinct stationhouse in Crown Heights around 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, according to a criminal complaint. At his arraignment in Brooklyn Criminal Court Wednesday night, he was charged with criminal trespass, impersonation of police officer and possession of drugs and stolen property, and ordered held on $10,000 bond.
According to authorities, Ezagui managed to make his way downstairs in the precinct stationhouse, where he ransacked a female cop’s locker, donning a lady’s police uniform he found inside.
When confronted by an officer, Ezagui, who lives in Crown Heights, declared, “I am being promoted to detective,” and that he worked at police headquarters in Lower Manhattan, the criminal complaint stated.
The day before he was arrested at the 71st Precinct stationhouse, Ezagui was charged with criminal contempt for breaking an order of protection by banging on a victim’s door and yelling “order me food” and then fleeing the building, according to court papers.
He has a raft of prior arrests on charges including burglary, assault, drugs, petty larceny and criminal mischief. Five of those cases are still pending in court, records show, including an assault arrest just two days before he allegedly invaded the precinct.
