While the skillful use of giving commands to subjects can achieve a desired effect, at times that tactic falls short — at times that tactic actually telegraphs your intention to take a subject into custody. Police1 Columnist Gary Klugiewicz explains that by using a quieter approach — and using questions rather than commands — you can often make your intentions unknown until it’s too late (for the suspect!) and your arrest has already been effected.

Gary has been involved for over fifteen years in the development of both training & duty trauma protective equipment.
