What qualities do cops admire in their colleagues?

A question posted on Quora asked, “What qualities do cops admire in their colleagues?” Former Police Commander Rick Bruno gave his opinion on the topic, below. Check it out and add your thoughts in the comments.

Good cops are those who do not avoid complicated assignments, and do not wait for calls to come their way. They face their responsibilities head on.

They go out and dig for activity, they do it the right way and for the right reasons.

They do the non-glamorous part of the job (paperwork) as well as the high-profile stuff. They are not afraid to stand up in court and testify to the truth.

They are at your side going into a hot call, and do not look the other way when it would be easy to do so.

They work the toughest shifts in the toughest neighborhoods, have outstanding courage and character, and never feel they have learned enough of the job.

They do not seek accolades or recognition — only the respect of their peers.

They might not be the smartest (intellectually), nor the strongest, nor the prettiest, but they are worth their weight in gold.

You know them when you see them.
