Gang Violence Blamed in Double Fatal Shooting

Violence between rival South Jersey gangs is being blamed for a double fatal shooting outside an Elks Lodge in Bridgeton.

Authorities say two members of the gang 30 Deep were shot to death Sunday by members of a rival group known as The Southside Gang.

A third member of 30 Deep was recovering from a bullet wound to the chest at South Jersey Health System-Bridgeton, police said.

Cumberland County Prosecutor Ronald Casella blamed the early morning fight on gang activity and said authorities were looking for suspects from The Southside Gang.

As of yesterday, no arrests had been made, Bridgeton Detective Chris Ward said.

“The amount of gang activity we see is disturbing, particularly for such a small community as Bridgeton,” Casella said. “I personally was very surprised.

A fight inside the Elks Lodge, a social club where people drink, eat and play pool and other barroom games, spilled outdoors before gunshots erupted, authorities told The Press of Atlantic City for yesterday’s editions.

No one answered the phone at the prosecutor’s office yesterday, and investigating officers from Bridgeton were not available for comment.

Police identified the dead men as Tyrone Milledge and Tamar Nichols, both of whom were in their 20s and from Bridgeton. Both were shot in the upper torso and died at the scene, police said.

The wounded man was identified as Kamal Martin, also in his 20s and from Bridgeton.

South Jersey Hospital spokesman Max Meng said Martin’s condition was not being disclosed at the patient’s request.

Authorities recovered weapons at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
