Armed Miss. man fatally shot after police serve warrant at wrong address

Police said they were forced to shoot Ismael Lopez when a dog charged at them and Lopez refused to drop a weapon

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. — A man was fatally shot after police served an arrest warrant at the wrong home. 

Officers went to serve a warrant Sunday for Samuel Pearman on domestic aggravated assault after he allegedly choked a woman in front of her 4-year-old daughter, WFTV reported. They showed up at Ismael Lopez’s home instead, who lives across the street.

Lopez’s wife told WREG that her husband opened the door when a dog began barking at police cars outside. 

Investigators said the dog charged at officers and Lopez had a gun, He was shot after officers told him to drop the weapon. Lopez’s family denies there was a weapon, but a gun was recovered at the house. 

An investigation is ongoing and the officer who shot Lopez has been place on non-enforcement status but hasn’t been suspended. Pearman is still not in police custody.
