OAK HILL, W.Va. — An Oak Hill police officer has been released from the hospital after being shot during a traffic stop.
According to WSAZ.com, 27-year-old Corporal Chris Young was shot in the chest but survived because of his body armor.
Young had tried to pull a driver over when the driver hit his breaks, jumped out of the car, and started shooting at Young.
In an interview with the Register Herald, Oak Hill Police Chief Michael W. Whisman said, “The suspect exited his vehicle along with officer Young exiting his cruiser and the suspect produced a hand gun and started firing shots at Cpl. Young. One of those shots struck the vehicle door and the other struck officer Young in the chest.”
The department is now focusing on finding the suspect, who fled the scene. A police helicopter is being used to scour the area and other agencies are helping in the manhunt. Area police have been notified to look for a black man driving a dark-colored Cadillac or other large car with Ohio plates.
