PORTLAND, Ore. — A state trooper that was critically injured during a Christmas Day shootout is recovering well, despite being shot 12 times, his brother wrote on GoFundMe.
Trooper Nic Cederberg, 32, is now allowed to leave his room and roam the hospital in his wheelchair with supervision, Jeff Cederberg said.
Jeff said Nic was shot 12 times, five bullets were blocked by a ballistic vest. The remaining seven hit him in the arms, abdomen and back. His lungs were injured as well, according to the fundraising page.
One bullet will be lodged in Nic’s lower spine for the rest of his life.
“When I said that he was ‘one tough hombre’ I meant it,” Jeff wrote. “The only reason he is still here today is someone was watching over him that night, I firmly believe it.”
