EDDYVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky State Police wants to limit the sharing of file with the final radio transmissions of a slain trooper and persuade YouTube to remove the video.

The funeral for trooper Joseph Cameron Ponder was Friday in Hardin County. Ponder was shot to death by a man who fled a traffic stop and was later killed in a confrontation with police after refusing to drop a weapon.

An Internet-based scanning service recorded and published Ponder’s conversation with dispatchers, according to a state police news release.

State police contacted a representative from YouTube, according to the news release. A representative told police that YouTube reviewed the request carefully but would not remove the video.

State police also are contacting news outlets that are playing the clip in an effort to “protect the Ponder family from added pain during this already difficult time.”

Additionally, state police are encouraging the public to refrain from sharing the audio on social media out of respect for the family, according to the news release.

State police recommend that anyone wanting to register a complaint about the video should contact YouTube directly.

Throughout Thursday night, people tweeted at YouTube asking it to take down the video.
