NEWARK, New Jersey — Federal prosecutors say a Bulgarian national long sought for his alleged role in an international identify theft ring is now in U.S. custody.

Prosecutors say 30-year-old Aleksi Kolarov had evaded capture until June 2011, when he was arrested at a hotel in Asuncion, Paraguay.

He was sent to the United States last week and is scheduled to appear Monday in federal court in Newark, New Jersey.

Kolarov is charged with conspiracy and other counts for his alleged role in Shadowcrew.com, an online marketplace that trafficked in stolen credit and bank card numbers and counterfeit IDs. It was dismantled by U.S. authorities in 2004.

Prosecutors say Kolarov served as a vendor for the organization.

The government says only three of 19 international participants in the ring remain at large.
