LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles County deputy charged with smuggling heroin into a courthouse jail in a burrito had been dismissed from the sheriff’s training academy in 2007 after a bumbling performance captured by Fox TV for a reality show.

Henry Marin later returned to training and became a deputy, but the Los Angeles Times said Friday that in his first attempt he was labeled the class slacker on the reality show “The Academy” after he slept during orientation and forgot radio codes during an exercise.

The 27-year-old Marin has been released on bail and relieved of duty after pleading not guilty to drug smuggling charges.

His arrest is the latest in a series of misconduct allegations that have brought investigations by the FBI and others of deputies at county jails.
