RUSSELL COUNTY, Ala. — Dash cam video capturing the police response to a disturbing attack that left one 12-year-old boy killed and a father slashed “ear-to-ear” and buried alive has been released, New York Daily News reported.

Forrest “Butch” Bowyer, who was 54 at the time of the Feb. 17, 2002 attack, somehow survived. His 12-year-old son, Brett, was killed.

The attackers, Michael Carruth and Jimmy Brooks, entered Bowyer’s home posed as police officers, according to the Ledger-Enquirer. Bowyer was a car dealer and kept $40,000 in profit inside the residence.

The suspects “arrested” Bowyer and his son for drug possession, took the cash and drove them to a shallow grave they had dug. They slit Bowyer’s throat and shot Brett three times. Bowyer managed to escape. The video shows the moment he approached police, bloody with a towel clutched to his neck.

Police were stunned to see a bloody Bowyer seemingly rise from the dead.

Both suspects were convicted of murder and remain on death row.
