SELLERSBURG, Ind. — An Indiana State Police K-9 was fatally shot and an officer was shot in the leg during a 10-hour standoff Monday night between a SWAT unit and suspect before he surrendered to police.
Officers responded to a domestic situation and were confronted by Joshua Priddy, 31, who aimed a gun then took off running, according to WANE.com.
Priddy tried entering several residences before finding an empty home to hold up in, prompting police to send in K-9 Kilo followed by several officers.
The suspect fatally shot Kilo, and disabled a robot that was sent in by firing several more rounds as police evaded the home, according to the report.
Priddy fired rounds out of the home in the direction of police, hitting one officer in the leg. He was airlifted to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Attempts at negotiating failed, forcing police to deploy tear gas into the home. Priddy surrendered and is being held on felony charges of attempted murder of a police officer, causing the death of a law enforcement animal, burglary, residential entry, pointing a firearm, and criminal recklessness with a firearm, according to the report.
