BUTNER, N.C. — A U.S. Department of Justice supervisor was killed Tuesday after being struck by a motorized delivery cart while supervising inmates inside a food service warehouse.
Michael Clifton Baskett, 54, was speaking with a delivery driver when an inmate placed a box of paper on the cart’s floorboard, which pressed on the cart’s accelerator, thrusting it in the direction of Baskett and the delivery woman, according to ODMP.
Baskett pushed the woman aside and was pinned beneath the cart. Inmates and other officers attempted to revive him to no avail.
Supervisor Baskett was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Federal Bureau of Prisons for 18 years.
