Ga. officer’s body found in ditch after crash

David Dwayne Crawford’s cruiser landed upside down in a creek

Duty Death: Deputy David Dwayne Crawford - [Carroll]

Atlanta Journal-Constitution

CARROLL, Ga. — An investigation is under way to determine if snow may have been the cause of an accident that killed a Carroll County deputy Friday afternoon.

The crash was on Tyus Carrollton Road at about 5:30 p.m., Gordy Wright, Georgia State Patrol spokesman, told the AJC.

David Dwayne Crawford, 54, was killed when his car left the road, landing upside down and submerged in a creek.

His car reportedly was discovered just before 7 p.m.

“The right side of his car dropped onto the shoulder of the road, left the road and overturned into the river,” Wright said. “Snow was on the shoulder of the road but not on the road itself.”

Crawford was leaving the scene of a weather-related accident.

It is unclear if weather was a factor in Crawford’s accident.
