SAN JOSE, Calif. — A San Jose police cadet is under investigation after his patrol-issued firearm was stolen from his vehicle, NBC Bay Area reported.
Weapons and other equipment were stolen on Oct. 26 from the vehicle parked behind a Benihana restaurant.
“When the deputies arrived they noticed the car was ransacked, the glove box was ransacked,” Santa Clara County Sheriff’s spokesperson Sgt. James Jensen told the news site.
The suspect popped open the trunk and took the firearm.
The gun’s case and other items from the theft were recently recovered from a stolen car during a traffic stop. The gun was not found.
Authorities are investigating the incident and did not release any further details.
The news site reported that officers get an automatic 10-hour suspension if they lose department-issued firearms.
