How to prevent “jumping through the handcuffs”

For those prisoners with smaller body frames, it’s an easy feat to “jump through the cuffs” and bring their hands forward. If you suspect your prisoner may attempt this, or he already has, there is a quick method to prevent this:

Simply use a flexcuff to secure the handcuff chain through the suspect’s belt. Use the single, original version of the flexcuff, not the double cuff model. If you have the reusable kind which unlock with a regular handcuff key, you don’t need a cutter and you can re-use them.

I like to keep the flexcuff somewhere inside the patrol car cage for quick access. It’s not foolproof, of course (nothing is), but it can give you a little piece of mind.
