CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. — A suburban man is facing felony charges after Crystal Lake police say he threatened a police officer by name on a rap video posted to Facebook.
Gerard Xavier Golston, 24, of Lake in the Hills, has been charged with threatening a public official, according to a police statement.
Police found a rap video posted to Golston’s Facebook page on January 6 in which the 24-year-old appears to be freestyle rapping while driving in a car. Police said Golston identified a specific Crystal Lake police officer by name and threated to shoot the officer.
“Additionally, other postings and independent investigation indicated Golston may have possession of, or have access to a firearm and threatened violence toward others as well,” police said in a statement.
Police got a warrant for Golston’s arrest on January 9, and the 24-year-old man turned himself in to the McHenry County jail two days later.
Police said Golston is being held on $35,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
