Woodruff, SC— A pregnant woman who tried to run over a police officer during a traffic stop was fatally shot by the officer Thursday.

According to a report released by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began when an officer made a traffic stop, and a male passenger fled the scene.

The female driver, later identified as Lacey Denise Lamb, 28, attempted to run the officer over when he began pursuing the man and the officer fired at her.

“She [Lamb] went straight towards him,” eyewitness Alisa Thomas told wbtv.com. “I knew she was, I mean, like she was going to run over him. So when he fired, he apparently hit her in the head, she lost consciousness and I saw the car just go straight, drive through the underpinning under the trailer.”

The officer involved was not injured and the male suspect, Matthew Simmons, 33, was arrested and charged with his third driving under suspension offense.
