CHICAGO — A bystander’s cellphone video captured a Texas marshal apprehending a juvenile who attempted to carjack him.
WBBM-TV reports that Ricky Fobbs, who’s also a retired Chicago cop, was visiting his family and friends in Chicago when the attack happened Friday. Fobbs was about to check in at a hotel when he saw a man jump into his car.
That’s when Fobbs’ 20 years of LE experience kicked in.
“My reaction was I gotta stop him,” Fobbs said. “I chased down the car, snatched the passenger and jumped in the car.”
When the suspect reached into his pocket, Fobbs grabbed his hand and “did a wrist-lock.” A bystander captured video of Fobbs apprehending the suspect.
Fobbs and several witnesses held the suspect down until police arrived. Police ended up arresting three juveniles, according to the Chicago-Sun Times. CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the suspects used another stolen vehicle during the attempted carjacking.
All three suspects face felony counts of aggravated battery in a public place.
