LAKE CHARLES, La. — A man accused of killing a state trooper is now implicated in another shotgun death, Louisiana authorities said.
Kevin Daigle, 53, was booked Wednesday with second-degree murder in the death of Blake Brewer, 54, of Moss Bluff, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Sheriff Tony Mancuso did not know when Brewer died, spokeswoman Kim Myers said.
Investigators “firmly believe” the same gun was used to kill both Brewer and Senior Trooper Steven Vincent on Sunday, authorities said. A gun in police custody will be tested by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab to be sure.
Daigle also was booked with stealing Brewer’s pickup truck, which he had driven into a ditch when Vincent found him Sunday, and with possessing a firearm after a felony conviction.
Judge David Ritchie set bond on the new charges at more than $1.6 million.
Daigle was booked earlier with first-degree murder of a police officer, a charge carrying a possible death penalty, and with aggravated battery of a police officer.
The pickup truck had been reported weaving across the road near Bell City before it wound up in a ditch, state police said.
Vincent’s funeral will be Saturday at a Catholic church in Lake Charles, with burial in nearby Lacassine.
