CHALMETTE, La. — A St. Bernard Parish deputy was released from the hospital and is recovering after being stabbed in the head by a suspect, WDSU reported.
The Sept. 15 incident began when the deputy initiated a traffic stop. Authorities have not determined why the suspect was stopped in the first place, but shortly after, the deputy was stabbed and called for backup.
When deputies arrived, they shot and killed the suspect, who was identified as 21-year-old Tyrone Bass.
Trooper Evan Harrell told the publication the deputy was found to be stabbed in the back of the head and was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
An investigation is ongoing. Additional information has not been released.
