Jeff Chudwin

Front Line Reports from Hurricane Ground Zero

Jeff Chudwin is Chief of Police for the Village of Olympia Fields, Illinois. He has been a law enforcement officer since 1974 and was an Assistant States Attorney for Will and Cook Counties. He is a founding member of the Illinois Tactical Officers Association and has served as its president for the past eleven years.

Chief Chudwin is co-chairman of the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS) Region 4/Cook, DuPage and Lake Counties and serves as the committee chair for the ILEAS Weapons of Mass Destruction/Special Response Teams. He is also co-chairman of the Terrorism/Emergency Preparedness committees of the South Suburban Chiefs of Police and the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Associations. In 2005, Chief Chudwin deployed as a member of the ILEAS Task Force in response to the Hurricane Katrina EMAC request from the State of Louisiana.

Since 1978, Chief Chudwin has trained police officers on use of force issues, tactical firearms, and officer survival. He designed the first patrol rifle instructor training program certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. He currently instructs a basic patrol rifle course, a carbine course, and a patrol rifle armorer course. In addition, he writes for law enforcement publications regarding police use of force, firearms training, patrol functions, and tactical operations.
