INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has released body camera footage of a chaotic removal of a home intruder.
When officers arrived at the home on Jan. 9, they began to ask the resident questions about the intruder’s whereabouts inside the home. The man directed officers to a room at the end of the hall.
Upon entering the room, the officers spotted the unwelcome guest.
“Alright, we got a big a** raccoon in here,” one officer said to the others. “Easy partner, you’re going to be OK,” he told the raccoon.
The raccoon was crouched in a corner after apparently knocking down a TV and a trash can, the video shows. Officers used a broom to prod at it, causing it to dart down the hall and behind a refrigerator. The fleeing suspect startled the other officers and the man living in the home, who ducked into a bedroom.
‘He’s a big boy,” the officer said as he prepared to remove the barricaded suspect. “He’s doing pullups on the [door frame].”
After two unsuccessful attempts to grab the raccoon from behind the refrigerator with a pole, the officer was able to grab the intruder and release him outside.
The officers apologized to the resident for creating a mess in the home. He thanked the officers and told them he initially feared he was being robbed.
“I just wanted him to get the f*** out of here,” the resident told officers.
