SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled that the death of Officer William Kasberg, initially believed to be accidental, was a suicide, News4SA reported.

Kasberg, a 30-year veteran of the San Antonio Police Department, died Dec. 10 at the closed Columbia Heights Elementary School building where he was preparing to attend state-mandated ALERRT (Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training), according to the report. According to the police department, Kasberg shot himself with his personally owned firearm.

Prior to his death, Kasberg was under investigation by the Rockport Police Department for allegations of invasive visual recording, according to the report.

Rockport Police reached out to Kasberg about the alleged incident on Dec. 9, and he indicated he would discuss the matter at a later time. He died the following morning.

The San Antonio and Rockport Police Departments are continuing their investigations into the incident. In the wake of Kasberg’s death, SAPD has made psychological services, peer support, chaplain assistance and its Wellness Unit available to department personnel.
