NORTH BERGEN, N.J. — A New Jersey police officer has died six days after being found inside a vehicle suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
On Oct. 18, Sgt. Alexander Vazquez, 32, was found inside a parked vehicle after police responded to reports of gunfire around 9:30 p.m., NJ.com reports. Vazquez was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Monday.
“As a North Bergen police officer he is regarded by his peers as a leader and a good friend to many on the department,” North Bergen Mayor and state Sen. Nicholas Sacco said in a statement.
Vazquez was a part of the force for 12 years and spent some with the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force.
