EDMOND, Okla. — Edmond Police Department Sgt. C.J. Nelson has died following a five-vehicle crash on Tuesday, KFOR News reported. Nelson was on motorcycle duty when a utility truck crashed into him and four other vehicles stopped at a red light.  

Responders rushed Nelson to a nearby hospital, but he died from his injuries. Nelson’s death is the first LODD for the department and he would have celebrated his 13-year anniversary with the department today. He leaves behind a wife and two children. 

The utility truck driver has been arrested on a charge of first-degree manslaughter or second-degree murder, according to KFOR News.
