The man had been charged with aggravated murder in the Aug. 9 death of Smyth County Deputy Hunter Reedy as well as with four counts of attempted murder
“It was disappointing that a board...voted to release a man that was so quick to pull the trigger knowing it was an officer,” fallen Officer David C. Douglass’s son said
“George [Labonte] knew firsthand how scary it was for him to deal with cancer and imagined it had to be even worse for kids,” the department posted on Facebook
The officer’s wife has been charged for his murder and is being held on a $100,000 bond
