YUBA CITY, Calif. — When a man wearing a pillow case and brandishing a knife approached the Wendy’s counter on Christmas Day, a customer didn’t hesitate to take action, Yuba City police said.

At about 5:30 p.m. Monday, the suspect moved through a crowd and approached the counter. A man who believed the suspect was about to rob the fast food restaurant in the 1300 block of Bridge Street grabbed a wooden chair and hit the suspect on the back of the head, Lt. Jim Runyen said.

The suspect immediately fled into a nearby waiting vehicle – a white 1990s to 2000s sedan with a driver. The suspect did not get away with anything.

The suspect is believed to be a man with a small build; his partner/driver also a male, Runyen said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Yuba City Police Department at 822-4660.
