LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — The Lawrenceville Police Department released dash cam and body-worn camera footage from the moment a stolen pickup truck crashed into one of their cruisers.

On April 11, Lawrenceville officers were assisting a state trooper with the pursuit of a stolen pickup truck, Fox 8 reported.

Video footage shows the moment the Lawrenceville officer’s cruiser meets the fleeing truck and state trooper. The pickup truck goes sideways, collides with the Lawrenceville cruiser and overturns.

Footage switches to the officer’s BWC as he and a recruit work to get out of their damaged vehicle and off the street. “He’s a Lawrenceville recruit, keep him safe, OK?” the officer tells bystanders as he moves the recruit toward a business and away from the crash scene.

“Oh Lord, thank you for keeping me safe,” says the officer as he runs back to the crash.

Additional footage shows the other side of the crash scene and the damaged Lawrenceville cruiser. In a statement, the department said that the officer and recruit were taken to a local hospital and treated for their injuries. The suspect was arrested and charged with multiple felonies.

“We wanted to thank our community, particularly those citizens that helped keep our recruit safe while our officer rejoined the fight,” the department wrote on Facebook. “Our officer relied on his training and remained calm during the entire incident.”
