Andrew Eways has more than 25 years of law enforcement experience; first with the Maryland State Police and currently with the Aurora (Colorado) Police Department.

During approximately 17 years of service with the Maryland State Police, Eways worked in several fields including patrol and field operations, criminal investigations, organized crime investigations, homeland security, criminal intelligence and criminal gang investigations. He served in both overt and covert capacities and supervised covert investigations, street-level gang and narcotic enforcement operations, and a series of Title III wiretaps.

Eways has testified as an expert witness in several gang and organized crime-related cases ranging from drug conspiracies to homicides. He was certified by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission, as well as various courts, as a subject matter expert in criminal gangs and specific organized crime groups. He has provided assistance to various federal, state and local agencies with criminal investigations, enforcement operations and actionable intelligence related to criminal and prison gangs. He has also been called upon to provide training in gang recognition, conducting gang and organized crime investigations, and many other related fields to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, as well as other groups.

He has authored numerous articles about gangs that have been published in law enforcement publications, law enforcement and correctional websites, and online police magazines. Additionally, he has appeared on the Reelz Network documentary “Gangsters: America’s Most Evil,” where he provided background on Toonerville Gang leader Timothy McGhee. He also co-authored two books: “Mara Salvatrucha, Eighteenth Street, and Other Sureno Gangs Across America” and “Sureno Gangs and the Inland Empire,” both of which are available online through Police and Fire Publishing. He is a member of several professional organizations and is the current secretary of the International Latino Gang Investigators Association, an associate instructor for the Homefront Protective Group, and the president and owner of Blue Line Academy LLC.

Andrew Rathbun previously served with the Michigan State University Police Department. Andrew was assigned to the Uniform Division for four years prior to transferring to the Investigative Division’s Digital Forensics and Cyber Crime Unit (DFCCU). He specialized in digital forensics and cybercrime, as well as conducting general investigations. Andrew also served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve as a rifleman. Andrew served one combat tour to Fallujah, Iraq, in 2006-2007 with his infantry unit out of Michigan. In continuation of his service, he works with the Michigan State University Communication Arts and Sciences department on various PTSD awareness campaigns. Andrew earned his bachelor’s from Western Michigan University in Criminal Justice/Sociology and his master’s from Central Michigan University in Human Resources Administration.
