FONTANA, Calif. — An officer’s quick thinking prevented an accident from occurring after a 911 caller reported her brakes were not working, the Fontana Police Department said in a release.

The distraught driver was driving a 1947 Chevy Suburban when her brakes stopped working. Dispatcher Ernes spoke with the driver, offering suggestions on how to stop the vehicle and kept her calm, all while dispatching officers to the driver.

When Officer Charco got to the driver, he noticed she was quickly approaching an area of road construction and heavy traffic. Charco was able to get his patrol car in front of the driver and slow his car until there was contact between the two vehicles. He used his brakes to safely stop both vehicles.

Because of Charco’s quick thinking, he was able to prevent any accidents.

Police said the driver’s car, which belonged to her grandfather, is back home safe and sound.

“Great job to all of the officers and dispatchers involved,” Fontana Police said.
