SUNSET, Texas — A Texas K-9 was shot to death by a man Wednesday as police attempted to take him into custody on an outstanding warrant.

According to the Star Telegram, the incident began when the suspect, who police have not yet named, refused to stop his vehicle as officers attempted to pull him over.

After a pursuit, the man exited his vehicle and ran into a wooded area. Police brought in the Wise County Sheriff’s Office and their K-9, Pepper, to search for the suspect.

The man opened fire on the K-9 after being discovered. Officers returned fire and killed the suspect.

No other details on the incident were immediately released. Police are currently investigating the shooting.
